For the past seven years, DJ:Plus! Entertainment has been supporting the Northern Beaches Girls Night In. Each year this committee of lovely ladies organises an evening of entertainment and fun for the attendees to raise funds for the Cancer Council which utilises the funds raised for women’s cancer research, prevention and support programs. The annual event has a theme each year and 2017 was the year of the Masquerade Party!

This year’s event was full of elegance, mystique and intrigue. The evening commenced with live music from Outlier, which features Australia’s Got Talent finalist and The Voice contestant, Jay Parrino who played a selection of popular songs from throughout the last few decades. Next up was a game with a prize worth $900.00 run by our MC for the evening, Jack Colwell followed by the Xtend Barre dance troupe, who have also been supporting the evening for the last few years. By this time the ladies were looking forward to dancing, so with the help of Adelaide from Xtend Barre who were teaching the ladies some funky dance steps the dancing started with “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson Feat. Bruno Mars. The ladies danced and had fun right up to closing, at which time I was still fielding requests!

Evenings like this however don’t just happen. They are the result of a lot of time, effort and sometimes personal sacrifice by some dedicated individuals who hope to do good for the community at large. The lovely ladies who organise this evening are all beautiful individuals with big hearts – many of them have or have had someone near and dear to them be affected by cancer and work tirelessly to put on this evening each year. So as you read this, please give these ladies a round of applause , but better still, thank them by coming along next time and telling those you know about it.

Lastly thank you all for your generosity in donating, attending this event and making me feel so welcome, I often feel like a thorn amongst a sea of roses, but many of you come up each year to say hello, ask for a photo or are watching me like hawks for when I am about to snap a photo and you suddenly ‘strike a pose’! I appreciate you all and I hope you all enjoy the photographs and videos!

Once a year the ladies from the Northern Beaches of Sydney come together to raise funds for Cancer Council women’s cancer research, prevention and support programs. DJ:Plus! Entertainment is extremely proud to have provided support for this wonderful initiative to help better the lives of those affected, for six consecutive years. The Northern Beaches Girls Night In is Australia’s biggest Girls’ Night In event and is always a fabulous night – 2016 was no exception!

Each year a theme is chosen and 2016 was the time for the ladies to get WILD, don animal print attire, roam around the jungle and ROAR as they were entertained, danced, caught up with friends, made new ones and all the while contributing to the cause via competitions, raffles, auctions and much more.

The evenings entertainment commenced with Stef, Cam & Ron Acoustic Trio who wowed the crowd with their unique interpretations of well known classics. Take a look at some video in post of this great trio in action. Next up were the Absolutely Fabulous girls from Leave It To Diva that captivated the ladies with their quick wit, hilarious repertoire and facilitated the heads and tails game where a lucky lady won a $1,000 prize! This was followed by the drummers from Africa Connection with their drumming and the ladies had an opportunity to play drums along with Thiass Mbaye and his assistant. Check out the video at the bottom of the post to see some of this. Then it was time for Xtend Barre Northern Beaches to show their dance moves. Adelaide from Extend Barre has supported the event for the last three years and the segment performed by Adelaide and her team are always enjoyed by the ladies!

It was now time for me to do my thing! Well, the ladies flocked to the floor and nearly all of them stayed there till the very end!! There were many that came up and wanted photos with me, not quite sure why, but I was more than happy to oblige. Throughout the night and at the end, I received many compliments on the set that was played, which obviously I appreciate, but the event was not about me, but rather the wonderful ladies who come along, participate in the various activities and donate to the cause all whilst having a fantastic evening!!

In conclusion, once again great thanks must go to the ladies that put this together each year, Kirsty, Freya, Jen, Inge and Keeley! Without them the whole evening would not be possible. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and the kindness and love afforded me year after year, it truly makes my heart happy that I can add something to an event such as this and bring enjoyment to all you generous individuals.

Hope you all enjoyed going wild whilst on safari into the jungle!! If you did, please leave a comment and/or share this post to promote awareness of the Event and the cause and if you just so happen to feel inclined, I would love if you would like my little space in the Facebook world. Thank You!

  • Charity Event | 9 October 2015 | Girls Night In | Dee Why RSL

The Northern Beaches Girls Night In is, according to the Cancer Council, Australia’s BIGGEST, Girls Night In event. DJ:Plus! Entertainment has been supporting this event since 2011 and each year a different theme is chosen, with this year being Funky Fluro 80’s! All proceeds go to Cancer Council to fund important research, education and support of women’s cancers.

This Event is always a fantastic night where the ladies can have a bit of fun, let their hair down a little and generate awareness and funds for the cause. The entertainment this year also consisted of Moneypenny, a local Northern Beaches covers band who played a fantastic set of 80’s classics, Heidi, the hula-hoop demonstrator, the lovely ladies from Xtend Barre Manly and OMG-Studio Photobooth.

Dee Why RSL was transported back to a decade when ladies could you get away with wearing skin-tight lycra pants one day and baggy “MC Hammer” pants the next. It was a time period when you could wear leg warmers, a jumper and a miniskirt all at the same time (and in electric neon colours). They wore all these things, plus fingerless gloves, fluro headbands, huge earrings and oversized tops……and these Northern Beaches ladies all looked absolutely stunning!!! With a party attitude, they got into the spirit of the night and danced the night away.

On all accounts it was another successful evening and I look forward to updating this post with the final sum raised when I am notified. Special mention and thanks to the organising Committee of Kirsty Gardner, Keeley Prior, Freya Lundgren, Inge Walter and Jen Drysdale who put in a significant amount of time and effort to make this happen each year.

Hope you all enjoyed the trip back to the eighties!! If you did, please leave a comment and/or share this post to promote awareness of the Event and the cause. Thank You!
