Blue Mountains

  • Wedding Reception | 10 September 2022 | Sarah-Jane & Sam | Bindo Creek, Hampton, Oberon, Blue Mountains

As I headed off for Sarah-Jane and Sam’s wedding celebration, the sun was shining brightly and there did not appear to be a cloud in the sky. By the time I got to Katoomba, which incidentally was where they first met, at the Baroque Nightclub, there was a light drizzle.

This drizzle continued intermittently until I reached my destination of Bindo Creek Cabins and unfortunately, continued periodically throughout the day and into the evening. Add in some wind, a chill factor and in most cases you have a potential recipe to derail a wedding celebration.

The Pavilion at Bindo Creek Cabins, is a relatively new wedding venue and, if I am not mistaken, Sarah-Jane & Sam’s wedding was only the second wedding to be held there. It is in an ideal location, at 1100 metres above sea level, on 200 acres with spectacular views over valleys, mountains and forests, the venue offers a 360 degrees panorama of the Oberon countryside and beyond.

With the Pavilion’s sandstone open stoked fireplace burning, guests were greeted with a roaring fire, drinks and canapés and made to feel extremely welcome in a nice warm environment. Soon we would welcome Sarah-Jane, Sam and their wedding party, but in the interim guests enjoyed the hospitality, views, conversation and love that filled this unique rustic space.

Sarah-Jane and Sam, preceded by their wedding party, were welcomed wildly with cheers and applause as they entered the Pavilion, with their obvious happiness reflected by the big smiles on their faces, they headed straight for the dance floor for their first dance as a married couple.

They then made their way to the wedding cake, and as can be seen in the photographs, they are smiling, enjoying every moment and having lots of fun.

For the next little while, guests availed themselves to a scrumptious buffet, prepared by The Golden Roast, enjoyed their meal and socialised. Sarah-Jane, Sam and their wedding party to the opportunity to mingle with guests and enjoyed catching up with family and friends.

Next we had a little fun with the Newly-wed Game. The Newly-wed Game is a wedding reception activity where Sarah-Jane and Sam have to prove their knowledge of each other. They were asked questions such as who the best cook is or the worst driver, and they have to decide who it applies to – all without being able to see each other’s answers. It was an entertaining game for the guests to watch, especially when the answers didn’t align! or depending on the question, they did align. It was lots of fun for everyone.

Following the Newly-wed Game, it was time for the speeches. First up we heard Sam’s dad, Ian followed by Sarah-Jane’s dad James who ended by asking Sarah-Jane to share a dance with him – such a beautiful and heart-warming moment. This wonderful moment was followed by a speech from the Matron of Honour, Sarah-Jane’s younger sister, Emily, then Best Man, James followed by, last but not least, Sam. All the speeches were heart felt with moments of humour and full of love.

We then transitioned into an idea that I pitched to Sam when we first spoke after telling me he was a mechanic. For the Garter Toss, he bought along a creeper board, torch and angle grinder/rattle gun. Using the creeper board, he slid under Sarah-Jane’s dress and with the torch inspected how to remove the garter. Then with his grooms-men nearby with all the tools, he asked for specific tools at which time I played rattle gun and air tool sounds as he removed the garter. Such a lot of fun and represented Sam to a tee.

This was followed by the bouquet toss as a segue into open dancing. Guests proceeded to dance the night away and before what seemed like no time at all it was time to wrap this amazing celebration up. One last final dance and a glow stick farewell tunnel for Sarah-Jane and Sam to depart. The celebration may have been over, but the love and memories will continue to live on.

One of the highlights of any wedding day for me is watching the connection between my couples (which kind of makes me sound a bit “stalker-ish”, but I just LOVE love! 🙂 ) Sarah-Jane and Sam are two delightful people who have known each other for almost ten years and their affection and love for each other is so wonderful to witness. They make each other laugh so easily, and are so generous of themselves and their warmth with everyone around them. I loved getting to know them, spending the day with them & their family & friends. Yes, the day was filled with some crazy weather..sunshine, rain & rainbows…some handmade touches…and most importantly, it was also filled with an abundance of laughter and joy.

Sarah-Jane and Sam, thank you for your kind hearts, your beautiful smiling faces, for sharing yourselves so openly with me and entrusting me as your Oberon Wedding MC and Oberon Wedding DJ. As you start this new journey in life, may every day hold wonderful shared experiences!. May you always find in each other the love, laughter and happiness that only best friends and partners in life share! May love, laughter, joy and music continue to fill your lives forever!!

  • Wedding Reception | 2 November 2019 | Kate & Luke | Fairmont Resort, Leura, Blue Mountains

“Marriage is the highest state of friendship. If happy, it lessens our cares by dividing them, at the same time that it doubles our pleasures by mutual participation.” ~ Samuel Richardson

Kate and Luke are a truly beautiful couple who like all my other couples, are also genuinely lovely and thoughtful people. They are caring, honest, gentle, hilarious and very loyal to their family and friends. But most of all, they are perfect together and with the inclusion of their beautiful respective children, it was so wonderful to witness their love and see them celebrating their marriage surrounded by close family and friends.

Kate and Luke first met through Kate’s brother at Kate’s niece and Luke’s daughter netball game. There were no sparks or first impressions. It was only later through barbeques at Kate’s brother’s house did they begin chatting and getting to know each other better. Eventually, Luke gathered the courage to ask Kate out for a date and they had arranged to go on a picnic to Palm Beach. On the day, it was very hot and when Luke arrived to pick up Kate and her two children, he found a picnic laid out on the floor of Kate’s unit and they had a wonderful and memorable time out of the outside heat. Later that evening when the kids had gone to bed, they shared their very first kiss.

Three to four weeks after the picnic, Kate and Luke went out on a date without the children to a restaurant in Wahroonga. By the end of 2016, they realised that they were in love and in September 2017 that love had grown to a point where they were considering marriage, moved in together and on 27 October 2018, whilst on a holiday to Currarong Beach, he took Kate to Point Perpendicular and while the kids were in the distance, Luke proposed, and while Kate knew it was coming, she certainly was not expecting it on that day.

Fast forward to 2 November 2019, on a beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze at the Fairmont Resort in Leura in the picturesque Blue Mountains, overlooking the pond with Luke, who said he was feeling slightly nervous (I beg to differ and feel it was actually excitement that was being confused for nervousness 🙂 ) and Best Man, Matthew waiting patiently for Kate to arrive. At just a little after 3:00 pm, the processional music started to play and Anastasia, Madison and followed by Lucas, who was escorting his mum, who was absolutely stunning in her wedding gown, made their way around the pond and down the aisle.

The smile on both their faces were HUGE – it was obvious that they were so looking forward to becoming husband and wife! What followed was a beautiful ceremony officiated by Karen Brown, Marriage Celebrant, a lovely reading from Kate’s friend Bree and they were finally pronounced husband and wife!! From that point on, they appeared to be wearing permanent smiles – they were just so very happy!!!! (Spoiler Alert!!! – those smiles were there ALL day and night.)

A group photo prior to Kate, Luke and their wedding party exploring the Fairmont Resort grounds and having photographs taken by Jeff Davies – Photographer and video captured by Platinum Films by Andrew, while guests availed themselves to the wonderful facilities at the Resort.

The reception room looked fantastic! With a black and gold theme, L O V E letters, beautiful florals by Piccolo Petalo, stunning wedding cake by Eaton Cakes & Catering, seating names by Rockmelon xo and an open photobooth  which was supplied by Jeff the photographer.

Before long, it was time to welcome them to the reception, and with cheers and applause we certainly made them feel special. A short welcome and thank you to the guests by Luke, prior to wonderful speeches from Kate’s dad Robert and Luke’s dad, Kevin. Guests were then served a delicious entree. Beautiful words from Kate’s life-long friend Emma and some marriage advice from Best Man (and Kate’s brother), Matthew.

A little bit of fun with the Newlywed Game, a scrumptious main meal, more fun with a scavenger hunt which had guests obtaining items from other guests for a “no expense spared” prize! This was followed by a surprise meaningful and humorous speech from Kate’s son Lucas. Lucas was a tough act to follow, but Luke soldiered on and thanked many people that had been instrumental in the relationship blossoming into a love story and today a marriage. There was nothing but endless love for Kate!

Guests enjoyed dessert, before some more fun with a dancing competition with a twist, the cutting of the wedding cake, before their very first dance as husband and wife to a personalised version of Coldplay’s “Sky Full Of Stars”. Guests then joined in and it was time to party – there were certainly lots of smiles on the dance floor and guests enjoyed themselves immensely.

All good things must come to an end and before we knew it, it was time to farewell our gorgeous couple, family and friends gathered in a circle of love and Kate and Luke made their way around it, thanking everybody for their love and support. A final dance where everyone was invited to join our newlyweds ended the night on a fun and happy note. Kate and Luke them made their way down a tunnel of love and the start of their forever love!!

Kate and Luke, thank you so much for granting me the ultimate honour and investing your trust in me for your special day as your Blue Mountains Wedding MC and Blue Mountains Wedding DJ. It was nothing but a pleasure and a whole heap of fun as we planned your day and I hope your wedding day vision was realised. I feel so honoured to have been a part of your day. Kate and Luke, thank you for allowing me this privilege. I know that your love will continue to grow and that the next chapter of your life together will be the absolute best. May love, laughter and music continue to fill your lives forever!!

  • Wedding Ceremony & Reception | 7 September 2019 | Megan & Marcus | Suzarosa, Berambing, Blue Mountains

What do you do when on your wedding day there are icy cold gale force winds, loss of power at the venue (thankfully there was a generator), your marquee almost gets blown away and just to make it more interesting it buckets down with rain the night before? Well most couples would potentially freak out, but not Megan and Marcus, they were cooler than cucumbers and took it all in their stride.

Megan and Marcus met at high school. Marcus left in year eleven to commence an apprenticeship and it was not until a few years later that Marcus messaged Megan on Facebook. They began talking and going out. Megan didn’t think much of it until the 7th September 2013 when he officially confirmed that they were dating – six years later on this very day, they were exchanging vows and becoming husband and wife! Of course before this, there was the proposal on the beach at sunset in Surfer’s Paradise during a weekend away where Megan accepted with a big YES even before Marcus had finished asking 🙂

So here we were at Suzarosa, a stunning property set on 8 acres and located in a quiet part of the Blue Mountains, between Bilpin and Mount Tomah with panoramic views over Wollemi National Park. Due to the strong winds and cold temperature that it brought with it, it was decided to move the wedding ceremony indoors. Officiated by Vivienne Warren, Megan and Marcus became one during a simple, but beautiful ceremony. Following the ceremony, whilst our newlyweds had various photographs taken by the very talented Anne Marie Yuen Photography, guests adjourned to the Marquee for drinks, nibbles and wonderful conversation.

A little while later, everybody welcomed Megan, Marcus and their wedding party into the Marquee and whilst some may say that the howling of the wind and flapping of the Marquee made it a little challenging, I beg to differ and would prefer to say that it made the wedding very unique. We heard beautiful and humourous speeches from Megan’s dad Georg, Marcus’ mum, Honnie, Maid of Honour, Cassie and words from Corey, the Best Man.

This was followed by some fun as each table completed an activity prior to being able to proceed to the delicious buffet prepared by PJ’s Catering Service. Next we heard some wonderful messages from some who were unable to attend. A little more fun with the newlywed game, a dance off with a twist, and the centrepiece giveaway which included everybody – all lots of fun and laughter filled the marquee.

The cutting of the wedding cake, Dessert and it was time for Megan and Marcus’ first dance as a married couple – such a beautiful moment. The wedding party and guests then joined in to help Megan and Marcus celebrate!! As the night progressed, it did get colder and more icy cold, but most partied on regardless.

Megan and Marcus, from our first conversation I felt a connection, then meeting you both, I not only felt the connection, but also saw that you both also have a deep connection. I loved hearing your love story, about your first kiss, the proposal, our progress meetings, speaking with you on the phone and being truly honoured to be able to share in your wedding day! Whilst conditions were not ideal and not what you were hoping for, you made the best of it and did not let it impact your wedding day which goes a long way to providing insight into how you will both handle things in your marriage. After all this, I am absolutely certain that no matter what your love will prevail. Thank you so much for your trust as your Blue Mountains Wedding MC and Blue Mountains Wedding DJ, it was a total pleasure getting to know you both and playing a part in your wedding. May love, laughter and music fill your lives forever!!
