  • Wedding Song Remake – What A Wonderful World by Katie Melua & Eva Cassidy (Duet)

“What a Wonderful World” is a song that was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1967. In December 2007, Katie Melua released a cover of this song, in which she sang with a recording of the late Eva Cassidy and is a great alternative to the Louis Armstrong version.

It would be perfect for the wedding reception pre-dinner dinks, background during dinner, Father/ Daughter or Mother/Son Dances.

    What A Wonderful World

I see trees that are green,
    red roses too
    I watch them bloom
    for me and you
    And I think to myself,
    what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
    The bright blessed days,
    the dark sacred nights
    And I think to myself,
    what a wonderful world

    The colours of the rainbow,
    so pretty in the sky
    Are also on the faces
    of the people passing by

    I see friends
    shakin’ hands,
    saying “How do you do?”
    They’re really saying
    “I love you”

    Colours of the rainbow,
    so pretty in the sky
    Are also on the faces
    of the people passing by

    I see friends
    shakin’ hands,
    saying “How do you do?”
    They’re really saying
    “I love you”

I see trees of green, red roses too
I watch them bloom for me and you
    And I think to myself,
    what a wonderful world
    Yes, I think to myself,
    what a wonderful world

  • Wedding Song Remake – Can’t Help Falling In Love by Ingrid Michaelson or The Eels

Whilst the original versions of classic wedding songs, recorded by the artists that made those songs famous, will add a certain style to your wedding reception, there are quite a number of beautifully updated & modern interpretations of some of those classics songs, sung by today’s most popular artists, that can give a refreshing lift to your wedding reception. The Wedding Song Remake series of blog posts, over the next little while, will feature some of these remakes to inspire your selection and provide an alternative option for your wedding.

“Can’t Help Falling In Love” is a very popular song for weddings. The two most common versions that couples use for their special day are; the original, which was recorded by Elvis Presley and the 1993 reggae remake by UB40. Whilst many artists have recorded this song over the years, two versions which really stand out for me, and are absolutely perfect for a first dance at a wedding, are those by Ingrid Michaelson and The Eels respectively. Take a listen and feel the emotion in these renditions – beautiful!!

    Can’t Help Falling In Love

Wise men say only fools rush in
but I can’t help falling in love with you
    Shall I stay
    would it be a sin
If I can’t help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
    Darling so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can’t help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
    Darling so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can’t help falling in love with you
for I can’t help falling in love with you

  • Wedding Songs – You’re The First, The Last, My Everything by Joshua Radin

Came across this awesome version of the Barry White song, “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything” (aka My first, My Last, My Everything) by Joshua Radin and was so completely moved. This version has so much emotion and feeling, and would be ever so beautiful for a first dance.Unfortunately, Joshua recorded this cover version for Tiffany’s for use in a commercial and the only place it can currently be obtained from is the US iTunes Store, which alas at the time of writing, does not allow us Aussies to purchase from. Hopefully, it will eventually be able to be purchased on the Australian iTunes Store.

You’re The First, The Last, My Everything

My first, my last, my everything,
And the answer to all my dreams.
You’re my sun, my moon, my guiding star.
My kind of wonderful, that’s what you are.

I know there’s only, only one like you
There’s no way they could have made two.
    You’re, you’re all I’m living for
Your love I’ll keep for evermore.
You’re the first, my last, my everything.

In you I’ve found so many things,
A love so new, only you could bring.
    Can’t you see if you,
You’ll make me feel this way,
You’re like a first morning dew on a brand new day.

I see so many ways that I can love you,
    ‘Till the day I die….
You’re my reality, yet I’m lost in a dream.
You’re my first, my last, my everything.

I know there’s only one, only one like you
There’s no way they could have made two.
    Girl, you’re my reality.
But I’m lost in a dream,
You’re the first, you’re the last, my everything.
