  • Wedding Reception | 5 March 2011 | Amanda & Chris | Yester Grange, Wentworth Falls, Blue Mountains

It was Christmas Day 2009 when Chris surprised Amanda with a beautiful engagement ring hidden in a necklace box under the Christmas tree and a proposal of marriage at their Central Coast home. They shared their fantastic news and excitement with family at Christmas lunch. The organising began and 5 March 2011 was selected as the wedding day. Very early in their relationship Amanda and Chris were bush walking in the Blue Mountains and they admired from afar “a lovely white house on the hill”. Years later, they discovered that this house was also a function venue, so when it came time to organise the wedding, deciding on Yester Grange in Wentworth Falls as their venue for the reception was relatively easy.

So with the wedding day finally here, mother nature was a little confused and not quite sure what to present to Amanda and Chris. It was a strange old day with intermittent light drizzling rain, a misty valley and the occasional glimpse of sunshine, creating a very unique backdrop for their special day.

The ceremony was held in a little church in the historic village of Hartley, approximately 50kms away. Following the ceremony, Amanda, Chris and the wedding party made their way back to “the white house on the hill” for photographs on the grounds of Yester Grange.

Shortly afterwards, the 65 guests – for which Amanda and Chris had so thoughtfully organised a bus, arrived. They were of course made to feel very welcome by the Yester Grange staff who served refreshments and canapés. To great applause Amanda, Chris and the wedding party soon also joined the guests in The Lounge. With open fireplaces, the warmth of family and friends, Amanda and Chris enjoyed this relaxed time mingling and chatting to those who had come to celebrate the beautiful love they share.

A little time later, guests moved into the Ballroom to share in the wedding breakfast. A lovely, delicious three course meal was served and enjoyed by all.

After the meal, we proceeded with the speeches which commenced with Amanda’s dad Jeff, followed by Best Man and Chris’ twin brother, Matthew, then Chris himself and finally, Amanda. During this time, both Chris and Amanda became very emotional, conveying heartfelt messages of love. Beautiful words, two beautiful people, a very deep love for each other and the reason why everybody had come together to celebrate with them. Glancing around the Ballroom, there were many that were touched by this combination of words and open display of emotion. As can be seen in the photographs below, Chris even needed to grab a drink on a number of occasions in order to regain his composure. Definitely one of the highlights of the evening for me.

The speeches was followed by the cutting of the cake which and a wonderful photo opportunity for the guests – Amanda and Chris were clearly enjoying this moment.

It was now time for Amanda and Chris’ first dance. To the sounds of Michael Buble’s “Everything”, they commenced their first dance as a married couple. The were then joined by the wedding party part way through.

Now that the ice had been broken, the guests did not hesitate to join them on the dance floor and it was party time!! For the next few hours there was not a moment when the dance floor was not full of guests having a wonderful time and….lots of FUN! (only need look at the photos below to see what I mean). The evening ended with a farewell dance which included each and everyone of their guests – another magical moment to end a truly magical day. I believe that their wedding dream came to fruition and they could not be happier – smiles were firmly on their faces until the moment that they left the reception.

Amanda and Chris it was a great pleasure, privilege and honour to be a part of your special day which was full of love and happiness – I know your marriage will bring a deeper love and more happiness into your lives. Thank you Amanda and Chris for entrusting me with your wedding celebration. Also thanks so much for the very lovely thank you conveyed in your speech Amanda – you have no idea how much your appreciation of my efforts means to me.!!! Have a wonderful and enjoyable honeymoon. May love and music fill your lives forever.

  • Wedding Ceremony & Reception | 22 January 2011 | Madeline & Robert | Peppers Manor House, Sutton Forest, Southern Highlands

It was an absolutely perfect day as I made my way down to the beautiful Southern Highlands for Madeline and Robert’s wedding. The wedding ceremony and reception was held at Peppers Manor House which is set on a picturesque estate, a short drive past Bowral. This retreat and the grand country house exudes a wonderful old world country charm, which made it the perfect setting for Madeline and Robert’s union in marriage. This special day in Madeline and Robert’s life was attended by 100 family and friends, some which had traveled from the United States.

The ceremony was held in the baronial Great Hall, which was converted into a ‘chapel’ for the service and exchanging of vows. At around 3:30pm guests began to gather in the Great Hall whilst Robert and his grooms men waited excitedly. The bridesmaids and Madeline entered the Great Hall via a staircase from the upper level – it was such a lovely way for them to make their way down the aisle. A beautiful and meaningful ceremony, officiated by Pastor Ron Brookman followed. The ceremony was interspersed with some hymns performed by live musicians and a vocalist. After the signing of the Register and being pronounced a married couple they made their way back down the aisle. Congratulations from guests and then a group photograph from above.

“I will love you and share my life with you,
    in sickness and in health,
    in poverty and in prosperity,
    in conflict and in harmony.

All that I am I give to you and all that I have I share with you.
Whatever the future holds, I will love you and stand by you,
as long as we both shall live.

    This is my solemn vow.”

Whilst, Madeline, Robert and their wedding party wandered around the estate grounds for photographs, guests were treated to canapés, refreshments and live music. The happy couple and their wedding party were later able to join in and mingle during this relaxed time prior to the commencement of the reception.

With a unique song selected for each couple of the wedding party and each of these individuals dancing and “playing up” to their particular song, as they entered Katers Restaurant, there was lots of cheering and applause creating a fun and entertaining start to the reception. Lots more whooping and cheering as Madeline and Robert made their entry. A few lovely words from Robert and the Pepper’s staff served a delicious main.

After enjoying the meal, we proceeded with the first set of the speeches; commencing with Madeline’s dad Geoff, who stated how much he loved Madeline, how proud he was of her. and concluding by wishing Madeline and Robert the fulfillment of all their dreams, hopes and happiness always. Next was the grandfather of the bride Douglas, who being 90 years old and having been married for almost 68 years to date, was in a position to offer a few words of valuable advice on how to achieve a happy marriage – a very lovely and sweet speech from a very dear man.

    Below: Best Man, Harry

Following a short interval for dessert, it was time for the final set of speeches. First up was Robert – he commenced by thanking all the guests who had traveled from far and wide to the Southern Highlands, he thanked Madeline’s parents Geoff and Robyn, his mother Jackie, the bridesmaids and groomsmen and then concluding by saying some beautiful words to Madeline, which came from deep within his heart, becoming a little emotional whilst delivering them. A very lovely speech from Robert. The last person to make a speech was the best man, Harry who amongst other things, retold the story of when Robert & Madeline met. The cutting of the cake was next, before it was time for Madeline and Robert’s first dance with the wedding party joining in a few verses later.

A special song dedication to the mother of the groom and it was time for everyone to let their hair down and party……and party they did!. There did not appear to be a moment when the dance floor was not full of guests enjoying themselves. Amongst all the dancing was Madeline herself who really let loose during a special request of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen (a portion of this can be seen at the end of the post).

The bouquet toss and garter toss, more dancing before guests were invited to join Madeline and Robert on the dance floor for a farewell dance. Following the dance, Madeline and Robert navigated their way through a guard of honour as they left Katers Restaurant and the reception. The party was not over yet though, guests continued to dance for some time before it was time to wind up this fabulous celebration.

As I have stated many times on this blog – I love weddings, I love getting to know the couples, I always feel very privileged and honoured to being able to share in one of the most special moments in their entire life. My couples are the nicest people. Each and every one of my couples are very special, they all have a special connection….Madeline and Robert were no exception, I loved spending the day with them. They wanted their wedding to represent love, happiness and joy…I believe we managed to achieve this and more! Thank you for placing your trust in me and allowing me to contribute to your memories. I know that the love you both have for one another will continue to grow and your future holds much happiness. May love and music fill your lives forever.

  • Wedding Ceremony & Reception | 15 January 2011 | Amanda & Luke | The Carrington, Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Amanda and Luke are an amazing couple who I got to know in the lead up to the wedding and I must say that they are absolutely perfect for each other. First meeting at high school through a friend of a friend, Amanda’s first impression of Luke most certainly was not love at first sight – however, as they got to know each other better, love blossomed and here we were on their wedding day.

Luke had proposed to Amanda in the Blue Mountains so it was very fitting that the venue they selected for both their ceremony and reception was The Carrington Hotel in Katoomba. This heritage listed hotel is a local landmark eluding the elegance, luxury and charm of yesteryear, offering a beautiful backdrop for this special day in both their lives.

The 60 invited guests, many which had made the journey from Brisbane, Queensland at a time when the capital and other areas of the State had been subjected to some of the worst floods in it’s history, is testament to how dear these family and friends hold Amanda and Luke in their hearts.Whilst rain fell throughout the night and until just before lunch, the skies cleared and it ended up being a lovely afternoon. The ceremony, officiated by Laurel-Anne Kenny-Levick, was held in The Lounge of The Carrington. It was a beautiful ceremony with a lovely reading and personal vows, which really came from their hearts. You could see the sheer happiness in both Amanda and Luke’s face. Unfortunately circumstances prevented me from being able to personally capture photographs of the ceremony, however with the kind assistance of John Manners from Above & Beyond Digital, I am able to provide the following photographs from the ceremony which have been extracted from the video.

“I love you. You are my best friend.
Today I give myself to you in marriage.
I promise to encourage and inspire you,
    To laugh with you,
And to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle.
I promise to love you in good times and bad,
When life seems easy and when it seems hard.
When our life is simple and when it needs effort.
I promise to cherish you, and to always hold you in the highest regard.
These things I give you from this day forth.”

Following the ceremony, Amanda, Luke and their wedding party proceeded to have photographs taken in and around Katoomba. In the interim, guests were treated to some delectable canapés and refreshments. Guests were then ushered into the Ballroom where the wedding party and Amanda and Luke were greeted by thunderous applause and cheering upon their arrival.

After a delicious meal, it was time for the speeches. First up was Amanda’s dad, Peter, who explained how special his “little princess” was to him and Cheryl, plus recounted an amusing story from when Amanda was growing up. Peter then proceeded to speak about Luke and the great qualities that he had and how he knew that his daughter was in the very best of hands. Luke’s dad, Bruce was next expressing how proud he was of Luke and wishing both Amanda and Luke the very best for their life together.A few words from bridesmaid Tiffany who spoke about Amanda, their friendship and the wonderful bond that Amanda and Luke both shared and how this was a great foundation for a happy future together. Amanda’s brother Scott then made a brief speech expressing how close he and Amanda were and how he could not have asked for a better sister. Cheyne, the best man then made his way to the microphone. He told of when he first met Amanda and how both Luke and Amanda personally had changed as they matured and the relationship became more serious and detailed some of their achievements.

It was now finally time for Luke to speak. Luke started by saying that he and Amanda had endured many difficulties, but he felt that because of these difficulties and the fact that Amanda had always stood beside him during these trying times, he had become a better person and he owed it all to Amanda. Luke thanked both his and Amanda’s parents for everything they had done for them, then the wedding party for all their support, friendship and being a part of their special day. He concluded by saying that by saying yes, earlier in the day, Amanda had made him the happiest man alive.

    Below: Luke

Last, but most certainly not least, Amanda took to the microphone and commenced by saying that she is not an overly emotional person and did not do “happy tears” but had found herself in the situation of after hearing the lovely words from her dad, brother and Luke of not being able to help herself. Amanda also thanked everybody for travelling to their location wedding, the bridesmaids, grooms men and Luke’s parents. She then became very emotional when commencing to thank her own parents – this overwhelming emotion resulted in a poor choice of words, which had the whole room in a fit of hysterical laughter. Amanda concluded by thanking Luke for being the person he was and for always being there for her. All the speeches were very lovely and heartfelt – it was not surprising that Amanda had become a little overwhelmed.

Amanda and Luke cut their wedding cake and then made their way to the dance floor for the first dance as husband and wife. The first dance was quite a moment for them both (I was very lucky to capture a special moment that they shared during this dance) before being joined by their wedding party part way through the song. Guests were invited to join in and the dancing got under way.

A little later in the evening there was the Garter Toss, a Circle of Love to thank their guests and another special emotional moment as Amanda danced with her dad to a very beautiful song about a father and his daughter, called…….Amanda..

Finally there was the tossing of the bouquet from the balcony overlooking the bar before Amanda and Luke left to begin their new life together as a married couple. It was a perfect day and I believe they had the wedding of their dreams. I had the pleasure and privilege to get to know both Amanda and Luke over the months leading up to this day. I found that they are a very special couple, they are certainly the very best of friends, sharing a deep love and understanding each other’s needs. They are individuals, that whilst different in many ways, complement each other perfectly – I know that their love will continue to grow and when they have a family of their own, the children will be blessed to have such loving and caring parents.

Amanda and Luke, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the honour of contributing to your wedding day, but more so for sharing your story with me and allowing me to get to know you both. You are both very special people and I wish you a long lifetime full of happiness. May love and music fill your lives forever.
