The Northern Beaches Girls Night started in a backyard in 2010 after a close friend of Kirsty Gardener was diagnosed with breast cancer. Twenty people attended, raising about $1000. As everybody knows, a cancer diagnosis not only affects the individual, but also family members and friends and sadly, every year in Australia around 17,500 women are diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer.
Last year I was approached to see if I would be interested in providing support in the form of entertainment for this fund raising effort to assist the Cancer Council women’s cancer research, prevention, support programs and those affected by Cancer in general. I immediately offered my support and it was a great night raising $13,000 odd dollars. I was once again approached a few months ago and did not hesitate one nano second to once again provide support for this great cause.
On Friday night in the largest room available at Dee Why RSL, the 2012 Northern Beaches Girls Night In was a sell out with 550 beautiful and generous ladies attending, to have fun, be pampered, be entertained, party and contribute to the fund raising effort…….and what a night it was, an acoustic performance from country music singer-songwriter Amber Lawrence, pampering activities, a photo booth, Bollywood dancers and yours truly the fund raising target was well and truly smashed…with in excess of $33,000 raised.
Rather than writing about how great a night it was, I am going to quote some comments from the Northern Beaches Girls Night In Facebook page instead, but you need only look through the photographs and videos below to see that it was such a fantastic night.
